Getinge Global Leaders in Surgical Workflows
From Rural Town to Global Leader
Getinge, a global medical technology leader, began in 1904 in the small town of Getinge in southern Sweden, founded by entrepreneur Olander Larsson. Initially producing agricultural equipment, the company soon expanded internationally.
In 1932, Getinge shifted to medical technology, starting with sterilisers. Acquired by Electrolux in the 1960s, Getinge gained access to a global network, fueling further expansion. In 1989, Swedish entrepreneurs Rune Andersson and Carl Bennet bought Getinge and began acquiring over 15 infection control and sterilisation companies across Europe and the U.S., establishing leadership in surgical workflows.
Getinge went public in 1993, with 600 million SEK in revenue and 750 employees. The 2000 acquisition of Maquet expanded its operations to operating theaters, and later acquisitions like Jostra and Siemens LSS strengthened its acute care therapies portfolio.
Since 2008, Getinge’s cardiovascular presence grew through acquisitions like Datascope, Atrium, and Boston Scientific’s surgery divisions. Today, Getinge continues to grow, offering solutions in Acute Care Therapies, Life Science and Surgical Workflows.
